8 Days Northern Morocco: The Andalusian Route
The Blue Pearl & Imperial Heritage: Tangier, Chefchaouen, and Fes.

Tour Overview
This private 8 days circuit explores the “Mediterranean Face” of Morocco. Unlike the arid south, this route traverses the lush Rif Mountains, a geological crescent of limestone peaks and cedar forests. The journey traces the path of the Andalusian refugees (Moors and Jews expelled from Spain in 1492), who built the blue-washed city of Chefchaouen and the whitewashed medina of Tetouan. From the international intrigue of Tangier to the spiritual depth of Fes, this itinerary connects the Strait of Gibraltar with the Imperial heartland, explicitly focusing on Moorish architecture, mountain landscapes, and Mediterranean heritage.
Highlights
The Hercules Caves: Stand at the Cap Spartel lighthouse, the precise point where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea.
Tetouan’s UNESCO Medina: Explore the "White Dove," the most Andalusian city in Morocco, featuring wrought-iron balconies and Hispano-Moorish architecture.
The Blue City: Walk the azure alleyways of Chefchaouen, stopping at the Ras El Ma spring and the 15th-century Kasbah built by Moulay Ali Ben Rachid.
Roman Volubilis: Visit the Basilica and Capitoline Temple at the southern limit of the Roman Empire, surrounded by the Zerhoun olive groves.
Fes el-Bali: Navigate the world’s largest car-free urban zone, visiting the Bou Inania Madrasa and the Chouara Tanneries.
Rif Mountain Drive: Experience the scenic drive through the Ouazzane region, known for its olive oil production and green valleys.

Detailed Itinerary
The Journey
"Upon landing at Ibn Battuta Airport (TNG) or docking at the Tangier Ville Port, you will be greeted by your private driver. We transfer you to your hotel to settle in. The afternoon explores Tangier’s unique legacy as an 'International Zone' (1923–1956). We visit the Kasbah Museum (formerly the Sultan's palace) to view Phoenician artifacts, walk through the Grand Socco, and sip mint tea at the legendary Café Hafa, overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean."

The Journey
"We begin at Cap Spartel, the northwesternmost point of Africa, standing 300 meters above the ocean. Below lies the Caves of Hercules, a Neolithic archaeological complex with a sea window shaped like the map of Africa. We then drive south to Asilah, a fortified artisan town. You will walk the 15th-century Portuguese Ramparts and explore the Medina's open-air art museum, where murals are repainted every summer during the International Cultural Festival."

The Journey
"Leaving the coast, we head east to Tetouan, known as 'The White Dove.' A UNESCO World Heritage site, its Medina was built by Andalusian refugees expelled from Spain, reflected in its wrought-iron balconies and Hispano-Moorish architecture. After lunch, we ascend the winding roads of the Rif Mountains. As the landscape turns to cedar and cork oak forests, we arrive at Chefchaouen, the Blue Pearl, nestled between the two horned peaks (Jebel Ech-Chaoua) that gave the city its name."

The Journey
"Today is dedicated to visual storytelling. We start at the Ras El Ma spring, the water source that powers the traditional hydraulic mills. We then navigate the blue-washed alleyways to the Plaza Uta el-Hammam, dominated by the red-walled Kasbah and the Great Mosque. Optional: For nature lovers, we can drive to the Akchour Waterfalls (30 mins away) to hike toward the 'God’s Bridge' rock formation, a natural geological arc spanning the Farda River."

The Journey
"We descend from the Rif Mountains into the agricultural Saiss Plain. Our primary stop is Volubilis (Walili), the furthest outpost of the Roman Empire. You will walk the Decumanus Maximus and view the Triumphal Arch of Caracalla. We continue to Meknes, the 17th-century capital of Sultan Moulay Ismail, to admire the monumental Bab Mansour gate and the Heri es-Souani royal stables. We arrive in Fes, the spiritual capital, by sunset."

The Journey
"A full-day immersion into Fes el-Bali, the world's largest car-free urban zone. Accompanied by a historical guide, you will enter via the Bab Bou Jeloud (Blue Gate). Key stops include the Al Attarine Madrasa (masterpiece of Marinid woodcarving), the Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts, and the exterior of the Al Quaraouiyine University (founded 859 AD). The tour concludes at the Chouara Tanneries, observing the medieval leather dyeing process from a panoramic terrace."

The Journey
"We take the scenic interior route back to the north, bypassing the highway to see the true rural heart of Morocco. We pass through Ouazzane, a spiritual Sufi center known for its olive oil and 'Jellaba' wool weaving. The drive offers spectacular views of the Al Wahda Dam reservoir and the rolling green hills of the Gharb agricultural region before we re-enter the urban bustle of Tangier for your final evening."

The Journey
"Depending on your schedule, your driver will transfer you to the Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport (TNG) or the Tangier Ville Port (for ferries to Tarifa/Spain), ensuring you arrive 2.5 hours before your departure."
