Todgha Palm Grove

The Todgha Palm Grove is the green heart of Tinghir, following the Wadi Todgha through an irrigated ribbon of palms, gardens, villages, and cultivated plots. Travel sources describe the wider oasis as extending for about 30 miles, and its presence is central to the identity of the city. This is where Tinghir’s geography becomes most visible: water descends from the valley, channels feed fields and gardens, and date palms create shade against an otherwise arid mountain landscape. Walking through the palm grove reveals the agricultural logic of the oasis, with cereals, vegetables, fruit trees, and small paths woven between mud-brick walls. The district is not a formal neighborhood with fixed visitor boundaries, but a living landscape shared by farmers, families, and travelers moving between the town and Todra Gorge. The best way to experience it is on foot, preferably with a guide who can explain irrigation, crops, local architecture, and the relationship between the palm grove and surrounding villages. The atmosphere is calm, especially in the morning or late afternoon when the light filters through the palms. This area is ideal for photographers, hikers, families, and travelers who want to understand Tinghir beyond a quick stop at the gorge. The palm grove is the essential bridge between the city’s cultural history and the dramatic geology of the Todgha Valley.
