Tangier American Legation Museum

The Tangier American Legation Museum is one of the city's most significant cultural stops and a tangible reminder of Tangier's diplomatic history. Gifted to the United States by the Sultan of Morocco in 1821, the building later became the first property acquired abroad by the United States and is now described as a museum, research center, and cultural institution. Inside, visitors encounter exhibits connected to Moroccan-American relations, Tangier's cosmopolitan past, and the city's role as a crossroads overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar.
