Jebel Toubkal

Jebel Toubkal is the great summit that defines Imlil’s reputation among hikers and mountaineers. Rising to 4,167 meters, it is identified across travel sources as the highest peak in North Africa and the main objective for many visitors arriving in the Aït Mizane Valley. The normal approach begins in Imlil, following mule tracks and mountain paths toward the higher refuges before the final ascent. In summer, the trek is often described as achievable in two or three days for reasonably fit people, but it should never be treated casually. Altitude sickness, strong sun, rapid weather changes, storms, snow, and fatigue all remain real concerns. Licensed guides are required for the Toubkal ascent, and travelers should confirm current rules, route conditions, equipment needs, and refuge arrangements before setting out. The mountain is not only a physical challenge but also a journey through the living landscape of the High Atlas, passing orchards, villages, rocky valleys, and the sacred area of Sidi Chamharouch. For many travelers, reaching Toubkal is the highlight of a Morocco itinerary, but the safest and most rewarding experience begins with careful planning in Imlil.
