Aroumd / Armed

Aroumd, also written Armed or Aremd, is one of the most important villages above Imlil and is widely described as the largest settlement of the Mizane Valley. Built on a huge moraine spur, it occupies a striking position above the valley floor, giving walkers broad views toward Mount Toubkal and the surrounding High Atlas slopes. The village is reached on foot from Imlil by paths that pass orchards, irrigation channels, stone houses, and terraced fields, making it one of the most rewarding short cultural walks in the area. Its architecture and daily life reflect the Amazigh mountain communities that have shaped this valley for generations. Visitors often continue toward Aroumd after seeing the Imlil waterfalls, combining a gentle hike with tea in a local home or a simple mountain lunch. The pace here is quieter than the Imlil trailhead, but the village remains closely tied to trekking activity, mule transport, and routes that climb farther toward the Toubkal approach. Because it is a lived-in community rather than a formal tourist district, travelers should move respectfully, ask before photographing residents, and follow local guidance on paths through homes and terraces. Aroumd is especially suitable for visitors seeking a compact walk with strong scenery and a closer look at traditional valley life.
