Spanish Mosque Viewpoint
The Spanish Mosque is the classic viewpoint above Chefchaouen, reached by a walking path that rises from the eastern edge of the Medina near Ras el-Maa. Travel sources describe it as a reminder of Spanish colonial influence, while modern visitors know it mainly for its sunset panorama over the Blue City. The building itself is simple, but its location is exceptional, offering wide views across the compact Medina, the Kasbah, Plaza Uta el-Hammam, and the surrounding Rif Mountains. The walk is popular but still retains a relaxed atmosphere, especially outside the busiest sunset window. It is one of the best places to understand Chefchaouen’s mountain setting and the way the town rests between ridges rather than spreading across a broad plain. The route is usually free, though travelers should wear practical shoes and bring layers because the weather can cool quickly. For many visitors, this viewpoint provides the final image that defines their time in Chefchaouen.
