Ouzoud Waterfalls

Ouzoud Waterfalls are the best-known natural landmark associated with Azilal Province and one of the most popular mountain excursions in central Morocco. Located in the Atlas Mountains, the falls are commonly described as around 110 meters high and are promoted as the highest waterfalls in North Africa. Their appeal comes from the combination of dramatic water, layered cliffs, olive groves, local cafés, and the possibility of seeing Barbary macaques near the walking routes. For many travelers, Ouzoud functions as Azilal’s natural equivalent of a monument: a landmark that anchors the region’s tourism identity and connects visitors to its mountain environment. Day trips usually involve walking down to several viewpoints, spending time near the base of the falls, and optionally taking a short boat ride close to the cascade. Additional costs noted in tour snippets may include a small boat ride, a local guide fee, and lunch, depending on the arrangement. The site can be busy during popular travel periods, but its scale and setting still make it rewarding for photography and light hiking. It is often visited from Marrakech or Beni Mellal, but staying in Azilal Province gives travelers a stronger sense of regional context. Ouzoud is ideal for nature lovers, families, and first-time visitors seeking an accessible High Atlas experience.
