Gorge Narrows & Canyon Road

The gorge narrows are the dramatic natural core of Todra Gorges and the section most visitors come to see. Located about 14–15 km from Tinghir, this short canyon stretch is famous for sheer limestone walls that rise up to about 300 meters and close in tightly above the road, river, and walking route. Several sources describe the most visited final section as especially narrow, with the canyon floor tightening to around 10 meters in places. The experience is immediate and architectural, as the stone cliffs create a vertical corridor of shade, echo, and reflected light. Visitors usually explore on foot, pausing for photographs, river views, and the scale of the rock faces. The road continues through the canyon, so pedestrians share the space with occasional vehicles, local traffic, and tour transport. Rock climbers use the surrounding walls for bolted sport and multi-pitch routes, while casual visitors focus on the easy canyon walk. The narrows are generally free to enter, though parking and local services may vary. Dry-season conditions make access straightforward, but wet-season water levels can affect the canyon floor, so travelers should remain cautious after rain.
