Aït Benhaddou and Ouarzazate Approach
Aït Benhaddou and the Ouarzazate approach form the classic continuation of a Tizi n'Tichka crossing. Aït Benhaddou is a UNESCO World Heritage ksar, a fortified mud-brick village near Ouarzazate and one of the clearest examples of traditional southern Moroccan architecture. Travelers coming from Marrakech commonly cross the High Atlas by the N9 before continuing toward this landmark, either directly or by the more scenic Telouet and Ounila Valley route. The ksar's earthen towers, lanes and hillside profile connect the journey over the pass with the architecture and caravan landscapes of the south. General access is widely reported as free, while individual houses, rooms or local guiding may involve small optional charges. Ouarzazate itself serves as the major practical hub beyond the pass, with airport access, accommodation and onward routes toward desert regions. The area is not part of Tizi n'Tichka geographically in a narrow sense, but it is inseparable from the travel experience because the pass functions as the principal road link between Marrakech and this southern region. This district is ideal for travelers who want to pair the drama of the High Atlas road with a major cultural site at the end of the crossing.
